The EU is aiming for a complete transition to quantum-safe cryptography by 2035, as quantum computers are increasingly able to break classical methods such as RSA and ECDSA. At Fraunhofer AISEC's 4th PQC Update in May 2025, seven key advances in post-quantum cryptography (PQC) were presented: an EU roadmap for risk-based migration, the international standards and certifications, increased funding measures in Germany, increasing integration into Internet protocols, manageable migration complexity through CBOMs, the first certified PQC hardware and new findings on risks from side-channel attacks. The experts were cautiously optimistic that migration can now begin in many areas.
