In recent years, widespread deployments of biometric systems have appeared around the world. Biometric technologies can serve a variety of purposes, including but not limited to: forensic investigations and law enforcement, border crossing entry-exit tracking, national citizen inventory, voter registration for elections, as well as access control systems. This talk will introduce the audience to biometrics and concentrate in particular on two technical challenges faced by biometric identification systems: efficient search queries and data protection.
